In the light of increased use of smartphones thereby leading to increased access to the Internet, children and young adults in Nigeria are continually consuming digital content with less restrictions/control/guidance. One of the tactics of the tobacco industry is to use social media and digital content to recruit new smokers. This threatens the future of the Nigerian youths.

For the young minds, these videos are just some random digital contents to make them laugh and ‘feel among’, whereas it is an indirect yet conscious approach of the tobacco industry to lure the young and the unsuspecting into the smoking ring. Through these videos, they trivialize the dangers of smoking and provide false solutions to the various diseases that tobacco use causes.

The goal of the #SmokefreeNollywood skit challenge is to tackle the menace of luring young Nigerians into smoking through digital content.
